The F Word Driving My Success

PrintFORTITUDE.

“Honey, hold on cuz this is gonna be a wild ride…”

That’s what I felt like my soul was telling me 5 years ago when I decided to start my own business.

If you told me even 6 years ago that I would go from selling tees that incorporated my poetry, to showing my collection at Houston Fashion Week, to helping private clients to build their own inspiring beauty brands, to now building a group online branding course for introverted leaders, I would have told you that you were totally crazy! Seriously.

My former self needed things to be proven to her before she believed. She needed to understand how things worked before she took action. She needed to feel that she was totally in control.

Until Life showed her what she was made of and who she was born to Be.

Trust me, my journey thus far has been incredibly life-affirming, but has also been some of my darkest times.

To get to where I am today, I had to have the courage and faith that I could make it through to the other side of a major career loss, debilitating illness, and the loss of my father. There were days that I didn’t know how I would pay my bills, much less continue on with my business. I’ve had plenty of days that I wanted to straight up give up.

But that inner voice would not let me. Even when I was on the brink of giving up, the inner fortitude of my soul would not let me fall.

I had to surrender who I thought I was to truly know who I am. See, I now know so deeply that I am being supported my Life.

I’ve learned to not force things. Where there is effortlessness, ease and grace I follow. Where there is not, I don’t. I’ve essentially learned to get out of my own way.

My whole life, I thought I had to struggle and prove my worth in order to experience “success.”

My newly defined success is so much more sweeter because it goes well beyond my own. I am helping women connect who they are born to be, natural leaders of beauty. A beauty that comes from deep within and naturally radiates out in their own authentic voice. I am so honored to help these women serve the way they have always a dreamed of for themselves.

I share all of this with you to remind you of your own fortitude. You have an inner strength that can overcome ANYTHING. Your spirit is stronger than any fear or obstacle that may come your way. You have the power to transform any challenge into something that will ultimately serve you.

You’re born with what it takes. You are always supported. Your inner voice is your guide.

You are brilliant and bold. You have nothing to prove and nothing to lose.

You are born to live out your greatness. On your own terms. Believe it. Share it. We are all waiting.

Would love to know what challenges you’ve overcome to help you to get where you want to be. Share your comments below. Thank you for being brave!

Such a great post! You’ve really spoken to the core of something that I’ve struggled with for a long time. I’m somewhere at the beginning of my own journey and there are definitely days where I have to remind myself that I’m on this path for a deeper reason, even when it feels difficult and the bills feel daunting! Thanks for helping me reorient!

Oh, I’m so glad I could help you along your beautiful journey. When I first started, I didn’t know where I was headed. I didn’t have a big picture. I just trusted my gut feelings moment by moment. It’s in these small choices along the way that I created what I have today. You’re on the right path, Jen. Just keep moving forward. Much Love! <3

Beautiful. Feeling “always supported” can be difficult at at times, that’s for sure! Thank you for your inspiring words!

Hi Megan! It’s def an ongoing process! There are days when I don’t feel as supported. But I never lose faith that there is a greater force in play guiding my way. All the best to you! 🙂

Hi Jennifer! I LOVE the word fortitude! It’s so actionable and inspiring – definitely makes me want to accomplish great things when I hear it.

My challenge is to maintain an intrinsic belief that I can continue to do great things. I know in my heart that I have so much to offer the world, but that negativity creeps in telling me, “Do you REALLY think you can maintain this and make it your full-time gig?!” UGH. YES. But that voice is quite convincing!

    • Jenn April 23, 2014 at 4:58 pm #

Yes, Molly it’s a day to day process to keep believing in what you are meant to do here on this earth. It takes ongoing courage and faith to experience the vision that you feel in your heart. But what helps me to keep going is that it’s not really about me. It’s about helping people with the gift that I am meant to share. When I focus more on serving, then the critical voices have less power over me. Hope that helps! <3

Thanks Jenn! I’m right there at that tipping point …where fear tells me to stay right there at my comfort zone….but as you said…the whole world is waiting to know my uniqueNESS 🙂

    • Jenn April 23, 2014 at 6:36 pm #

Yes, Monica. I know it’s scary to be at that point, but there are people out there that need what you have to offer. If you focus more on serving through your passion, then your motivation to move forward becomes bigger than your fears. Trust and keep moving! <3
